Technical Surveillance Countermeasure or TSCM
Conducted by a Technical Surveillance Specialist. An individual or team of highly training professionals can carry out Technical Surveillance Countermeasure inspections. The purpose is to identify and remove or debug, a build, office, home or vehicle.
With the increase of business espionage and invasions in to people’s privacy a TSCM inspection is a good way to increase you personal and business communications security or COMSEC.
Countermeasure inspections require a substantial amount of high tech and specialist equipment:
OSCOR, manufactured in the USA, by REI, this is spectrum analyser used to inspect the RF frequency spectrum for intelligence gathering devices that transmit the information to a remote location.
TALAN, manufactured in the USA, by REI, this is a cable and phone analyser used to inspect structured cabling, such as phone lines and network cables. The TALAN is also capable of inspecting analogue, digital and IP phone systems for devices. This lets the Technical Surveillance Specialist identify a wiretap, RF transmitter embedded in the telephone and much more.
NLJD, this is a non-linear junction detector, this is used to identify electronics even if the device isn’t active. It can be used as a microphone detector; it will identify an active or inactive device, which has been hidden in an object or wall.
Hidden camera detector, this won’t be achieved using one piece of equipment, the OSCOR will identify a hidden camera if it has a RF transmitter and it is transmitting, a second piece of equipment would be used to identified hidden camera lenses and the non-linear junction detector or NLJD can be used as a hidden camera detector as the NLJD will detect the electronics in the camera.
IMSI Catcher, this is a piece of equipment to identify or detect all of the mobile devices in the area, any active device with a SIM card installed.
This list is by no means complete.
